Pharmacy Technician – Patient Services
Location: Ipswich, England, United Kingdom. Working details: 7‑day pharmacy service, rota basis at the Ipswich site. We need registered Pharmacy Technicians qualified in Band 5; if you lack some qualifications you may start in Band 4 with support to develop your Accredited Checking Technician and Medicines Reconciliation skills.
Responsibilities
* Undertake pharmacy duties as directed by management, including supporting Medicines Management and Optimisation on wards and in the dispensary.
* End‑check prescriptions previously validated by a pharmacist (ACPT).
* Support the ward‑based clinical pharmacy team by assessing Patients Own Drugs (PODs) for suitability, discussing future supply with patients/care providers, and ordering required medicines from pharmacy.
* Transcribe medicine requirements from drug charts onto a ward pharmacy sheet.
* Undertake Medicines Reconciliation: check patient medication history, compare with prescribed medications on the in‑patient prescription chart.
* Counsel patients or carers (including those with complex regimens or communication barriers) after completing in‑house or accredited training.
* Complete re‑validation and Continuing Professional Development requirements and maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Proactively support senior pharmacy colleagues to highlight dispensary or ward issues to all appropriate departmental staff.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with Accredited Checking Technician qualification.
* Completed Medicines Reconciliation training (or started).
* Experience supporting ward or dispensary pharmacy services.
* Ability to work flexibly, react positively to change, communicate effectively with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong attention to detail, ability to follow written procedures, work under supervision, and meet deadlines.
