About Us
Mele Arts is an established art education centre based in Mt Waverley (South-East Melbourne), operating since 2017. We deliver structured and engaging art programs for children and teenagers aged 5–18, specialising in manga, cartoon illustration and creative drawing. Our courses follow clear teaching outlines while allowing teachers the flexibility to bring their own creative strengths into the classroom.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Manga, Cartoon & Illustration Art Teacher to join our team at the Mt Waverley campus. This role involves teaching students aged 5–18, from beginners to more advanced teenage learners.
Teaching experience is highly preferred, particularly the ability to adapt teaching approaches for different age groups and skill levels.
Key Responsibilities
* Teach manga, cartoon and illustration skills, including:
* Character design and facial expressions
* Proportions and simplified anatomy
* Line work, inking, colouring and shading
* Basic storytelling and panel composition (age-appropriate)
* Deliver lessons using Mele Arts' structured curriculum
* Adapt lesson depth and pace for different ages and abilities
* Support older students in developing more refined techniques and personal styles
* Maintain a positive, safe and engaging classroom environment
* Communicate student progress with parents when required
* Prepare lesson materials and visual demonstrations
Requirements
* Strong skills in manga, cartoon drawing, illustration or comic art
* Previous teaching or tutoring experience preferred
* Confidence teaching students aged 5–18
* Fluent English communication skills (spoken and written)
* Clear classroom management and communication skills
* Experience with digital drawing tools (e.g. Procreate, Photoshop) is an advantage
* Passion for art education and working with children and teenagers
* Reliable, patient and professional
* Working With Children Check (required or willing to obtain)
Preferred (Not Required)
* Mandarin language skills
* Experience teaching teenagers or advanced art students
* Digital illustration teaching experience (iPad / Procreate)
* Experience with portfolio preparation or art competitions
