We are seeking to establish a pool of Big Picture Education Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Note: This position is being advertised as part of a recruitment pilot designed to simplify the application process for teachers. A mandatory CV template is provided for use. Application requirements include character limited responses to address only 2 Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) domains at application stage. The remaining AITSL domain will be assessed as part of the further assessment stage, for shortlisted applicants only.

Karratha SHS is an independent public school for students from Years 7 to 12. The Role

Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking passionate and innovative teachers to lead students as an advisory teacher within our Big Picture Learning Academy. This program caters for students in Year 9 – 12 and encourages all students to identify and pursue their interests and passions through Advisory groups, individualised learning projects and internships. Our students complete Year 11 and 12 through the International Big Picture Learning Credential.

We seek to engage young people in learning through implementing the Big Picture Learning design which encourages all students to identify and pursue their interests and passions. We want to prepare our young people well for life post-school and we start that by engaging students in the community through internships. We aim to be strongly connected with families through termly learning plan meetings and exhibitions. We have high expectations of every student, and our team displays a commitment to excellence. We aim to establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment using Positive Behaviour Support and trauma informed practices promoting the school values of responsibility, respect and inclusivity.

Suitable applicants should place students at the centre of decisions about what, how, and when they learn, fostering independence, engagement, and a lifelong love of learning. You will ideally create an environment built on trust, respect, and care, working closely with families, industry mentors, and the school community to ensure varied, personalised, and differentiated approaches to learning. You will be responsible for student learning across the curriculum including literacy and numeracy, that aligns with their individual goals. Suitable applicants should continue to develop the philosophy of combining personalised learning and working together – one student at a time in a community of learners to create a classroom environment where students are engaged in meaningful learning, and where academic progress is measured against real world standards and how it transforms their lives.

Mobility appointments for permanent, metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
