Consultant Urological Surgeon – Launceston General Hospital
Launceston General Hospital invites applications for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to join our dynamic and expanding team. Serving a population of approximately 300,000, the unit provides a comprehensive Level 6 Urology service across North and North‐West Tasmania, with statewide sub‐specialist services.
Responsibilities
* Operate in the Main Theatre Suite at Launceston General Hospital.
* Operate in the Day Procedure Unit at Launceston General Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital.
* See patients in the Outpatient Clinic at Launceston General Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital.
* Attend weekly Grand Rounds.
* Provide consultative service for other specialty units.
* Supervise the clinical work of junior medical staff in the unit.
* Engage in quality assurance activities within the hospital, including participating in unit and departmental management meetings, continuing education meetings and teaching clinical staff.
* Ensure accurate clinical records are maintained for each patient.
* Oversee the quality of care provided by junior medical staff.
* Engage in teaching and research activities, including undergraduate teaching, tutorials for students of the Tasmanian Medical School, teaching junior medical staff, and participating in clinical reviews and research activities at the hospital.
* Actively participate in the organisation's Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, developing and implementing safety systems and improvement initiatives.
* Call back duties as assigned.
* Additional duties appropriate to the role and classification level may be assigned.
Location
Launceston General Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital, Department of Surgical and Perioperative Services; outpatients and theatre suites.
Appointment Details
Fixed‐term, part‐time day worker with on‐call duties, working 21 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a three‐year period.
Possibility exists for the successful applicant to work in a visiting medical specialist or staff specialist position with hours to be negotiated.
Salary & Allowances
Visiting Medical Practitioner Level 1‐4: $254,149 – $445,341 per annum, pro rata, plus 12 % superannuation and salary packaging, in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement 2019.
Additional allowances include:
* Urology Specialist Allowance of up to $110,000 per annum, pro rata.
* Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees.
Eligibility
* Essential: Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
* Desirable: Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent; expedited pathway for Fellowship Accreditation now available.
Registrations and licences must remain current and valid at all times while employed, and the employee is responsible for maintaining them. Pre‐employment checks will be conducted, including conviction checks for violence, sex‐related offences, serious drug offences, crimes involving dishonesty, identification check, and disciplinary action in previous employment.
