Database and Analytics Specialist
We are seeking a highly skilled Database and Analytics Specialist to join our Technical Services team. Reporting to the Medium-Term Planning (MTP) Superintendent, this role is responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions in database design, data reporting, analytics, and transparency to support decision-making and business improvements.
The successful candidate will provide guidance and training to the team on best practices for data analytics, visualisation, data interpretation, and the generation of actionable insights. As a key member of the Technical Services team, you will contribute to achieving project targets while fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment that supports the company's core values and culture.
* Design and build scalable, secure, and optimised databases for the Technical Services team.
* Implement best practices such as normalisation, indexing, and query optimisation.
* Design secure data integration pipelines and ensure low-latency data access for analytics.
* Collaborate with IT to ensure secure network configurations and troubleshoot data transfer issues.
* Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing validation rules and performing regular quality checks.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to address data issues and maintain governance using audit trails.
* Implement automated reporting tools and dashboards to enhance operational efficiency.
* Train team members on analytics and data visualisation tools, providing guidance on best practices for creating visualisations.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will require:
* A qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
* 3-5 years' experience with database management systems (DBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server including experience designing and building databases from the ground up.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to develop efficient, scalable database structures and designs.
* Experience with data analytics tools and techniques, including the ability to work with both structured and unstructured data, and optimise databases for analytics and reporting needs.
* Proficiency in tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
* Advanced Excel skills.
* Strong communication and time management skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage database-related projects effectively.
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and alignment on database requirements.
