We're looking for a passionate and experienced Building Surveyor, to play a key role in supporting Council at the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC). The Building Surveyor (Council Support) provides expert technical advice in the delivery of State Building Surveyor functions, with a focus on delivery of providing advice and support to Council's and Municipal Building Surveyors on the performance of their building control functions. The role will deliver a range of activities to support Council's in the assessment of buildings against safety and compliance standards, issuing building notices and orders, managing audit and rectification processes for complex buildings, and providing authoritative technical advice and stakeholder support. The role will be a part of an expert technical team and will support in fostering collaboration between the Office of the State Building Surveyor and local councils to enhance building safety and compliance standards. Reporting to the Manager, Council Support, this role will support the implementation and/or ongoing delivery of nominated projects to achieve the VBA's strategic goals and responsibilities under the Building Act What we are looking for: Experienced building surveying professional with strong technical and regulatory expertise Able to provide high‑level advice and support to councils on complex building matters Skilled in delivering training, workshops, and capacity‑building initiatives Capable of identifying improvement opportunities and developing practical solutions Contributes to continuous improvement of building control and surveying functions within councils Effective project manager who can deliver multiple outcomes on time and within budget Strong policy, guideline, and framework development capability Confident stakeholder manager who builds productive relationships across councils, government, and industry Qualifications * Tertiary qualifications and current Victorian Registration as a Building Surveyor Unlimited with no conditions for VPS 7 or Building Surveyor Limited for VPS 6). It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation. Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance.
