What you'll do The Hostel Coordinator plays a vital role in the daily coordination and smooth running of the Wadeye Hostel program. Responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team, including Youth Workers, House Parents, cook, maintenance person, Mentor, and Wellbeing Worker. The Hostel Coordinator ensures the provision of culturally safe, trauma-informed care and a supportive, structured environment for school-aged girls and trainees.
Reporting to the Wadeye Programs Manager, the Hostel Coordinator oversees program delivery, staff supervision, and operational logistics. This includes maintaining consistent routines, managing staff coverage, mentoring team members, supporting student wellbeing and engagement, and ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures. The role is central to creating a safe, nurturing space where young people can thrive socially, emotionally, and educationally.
* Provide day-to-day supervision and support to the Hostel team, including Youth Workers, House Parents, Mentors, Wellbeing Support Workers, cook, and maintenance person.
* Model trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice in all interactions with staff and students.
* Manage rosters to ensure consistent coverage and adequate support across all shifts.
* Coordinate regular team meetings, reflective practice sessions, and informal debriefs.
* Identify staff training needs and support access to professional development opportunities.
* Support new staff with a structured onboarding process and clear expectations.
* Provide mentoring, coaching, and guidance to build team capability and wellbeing.
*Selection criteria*
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with young people, families, and stakeholders.
* Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with a calm, solutions-focused approach.
* Competent in using Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook) and maintaining accurate digital records.
* Exceptional time management, organisational, and administrative capabilities.
* Valid manual driver's licence.
* Current First Aid Certificate (including CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis desirable).
* Ability to build strong, respectful relationships with adolescents and demonstrate sound professional judgement, particularly in crisis situations.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Must be located in Australia with full working rights
* Current and valid NT Ochre card (Working with Children Check)
* Clear National Police Clearance certificate (less than 6 months old)
* Vocational or tertiary qualifications in community services, training and/or Aboriginality
* Valid Northern Land Council permit
* Current First Aid and CPR certificates
* A valid manual driver's licence
