Summary
Develop, maintain, and enhance Linux-based applications and systems for unmanned aircraft, ensuring reliable integration of hardware, third-party software, and team-delivered components. The position is accountable for designing and documenting system interfaces and architecture, managing build systems and release pipelines, and coordinating across teams and suppliers. It encompasses the full lifecycle of software and system support, including systematic analysis, risk assessment, testing at all levels, and fault investigation during development, production, and in-service operations.
Responsibilities
* Maintaining existing, as well as creating new Linux applications on the unmanned aircraft.
* Designing and coordinating interfaces between teams, documenting the architecture and design decisions.
* Integration of hardware and 3rd-party software into the Linux system, aligning with suppliers and other teams.
* Testing of existing and new applications. This includes writing unit tests, integration tests, functional tests, and acceptance tests.
* Analysing logs from both test flights as well as real-world customer issues.
* Fault finding and issue tracking in production and maintenance.
* Conduct systematic analysis and risk assessment, implementing strategies to mitigate potential obstacles and ensure success.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
* Tertiary degree in Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
* 3+ years of experience in Linux software development, preferably in embedded or robotics systems.
* Australian Citizenship and ability to hold a Security Clearance.
* Strong proficiency in C/C++ (14 or newer) with proven experience developing Linux applications.
* Solid understanding of Linux internals, including system services, device trees, and kernel modules.
* Experience with cross-compilation, Yocto, Buildroot, or similar build systems.
* Hands-on experience with debugging tools (e.g., GDB, strace, perf) and log analysis.
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and release management.
* Knowledge of WPF, XAML, QT, QML.
* Basic knowledge of communication protocols (HTTP, UDP/TCP, MAVLink, Serial, Ethernet).
* Familiarity with middleware and interface standards such as DDS.
* Knowledge of containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker) and virtualisation.
* Prior experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
