About the role
The Irrigation Systems Specialist will report directly to the Climate Systems and Irrigation Lead and will ensure all irrigation and nutrient feeding requirements are followed accordingly and in line with OH&S and Quality guidelines.
They will be responsible for identifying and escalating irrigation issues throughout the glasshouse and may be involved in minor repairs and modifications.
As an Irrigation Systems Specialist, you will
Coordinating the day-to-day functions of other production operators in the respective areas.
Facilitating training for new and current operators with all associated irrigation duties.
Daily climate and irrigation feed checks in line with programmed fertigation feed parameters scheduled by PRIVA Connext and provide feedback to Climate System and Irrigation Lead;
Analyse Grodan GroSens and PRIVA Connext fertigation data in order to make informed crop fertigation decisions;
Liaise with the Climate Systems and Irrigation Lead for operation of the Mildura fertigation system, including but not limited, to formulation of concentrated nutrient stock solutions, sampling of nutrient recycle solution, water systems checks and calibration of pH probes in line with the relevant SOPs within CANN's Quality Management System (QMS);
Promotes a safe working culture within the fertigation area and wider Cultivation team;
Perform irrigation maintenance on drip irrigation feed lines.
Liaise with the Climate Systems and Irrigation Lead to resolve crop issues and drive yield improvements associated with fertigation;
Liaise with the Climate Systems and Irrigation Lead for Mildura fertigation projects and equipment qualification activities;
Manage raw material and fertiliser inventories and generate purchase requests through Sage X3 (ERP);
Ensure fertigation records, e.g., nutrient bill of materials (BOMs), are evaluated and signed in line with Good Documentation Practices (GDP);
Maintain a clean working space within the Fertigation Room, adhering to cleaning schedules and process outlined in the relevant SOPs;
Utilise the appropriate processes and systems to report business, safety and quality issues;
Direct and assist Production Operator – Cultivators in performing all their related duties.
Drive the continuous improvement of systems and processes within the cultivation team.
Additional duties as required.
About you
Qualifications / Licences
Tertiary qualifications in Science, Agricultural Science, Horticulture, or related field would be highly regarded
Pre-employment Security and Health Screening.
Experience
At least 3 years' experience within a production horticulture role – preferably within the Medicinal Cannabis industry.
Demonstrated track record of providing workable solutions in an emergent business.
Experience in regulated environments (GMP, GACP, ODC, TGA) is highly regarded.
Skills
Strong technical understanding of irrigation and fertigation principles, nutrient delivery, and substrate management.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly relating to irrigation lines, nutrient delivery and environmental interactions.
High level of attention to detail, accuracy and compliance in completing records and following SOPs.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work closely with Cultivation, Climate, Engineering and Quality teams.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and coordinate daily operational activities.
Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and proactively promoting safety practices.
Proactive, continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies and recommend practical solutions.
