Legal Aid Western Australia is seeking highly experienced solicitors with a passion for family law to join the Family Law Division. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful work in family law, child protection, and family violence, making a real difference to the lives of families and children in the Western Australian community.
If you are an experienced family lawyer with at least eight (8) or more years post admission experience, this is a great opportunity for you.
About the role
The ideal candidate will have significant experience as an Independent Children's Lawyer (ICL) in the Family Court and Child Representative in the Children's Court.
Trial experience as either instructing Solicitor or Counsel is essential for appointment to this role. You will have extensive experience working with vulnerable and complex clients, and well-developed negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work autonomously and cooperatively in a team environment and will be required to manage multifaceted matters of legal and factual complexity.
At this level you will play an important role as a Senior ICL / Child Representative in the professional development and mentorship of junior lawyers in the areas of Family law and ethics.
You will also have a strong understanding of family violence and be committed to achieving equitable access to justice to support a fair and safe community and changing the trajectory for those at risk of experiencing or perpetrating violence.
Competency in managing human and financial resources and a good working knowledge of digital information management is also required.
About you
You will have significant family law litigation experience (including trial work), with a passion for quality advocacy and ability to identify early opportunities to resolve matters. Your communication skills will be outstanding and your knowledge of the law, extensive. A desire to be a leader, mentor and part of a professional team is essential.
