The Department of the House of Representatives is seeking applications from those interested in directly supporting the work of the House of Representatives and members of Parliament at Parliament House in Canberra.
The role is situated within the Procedural Development Section of the Procedure Office. The Procedure Office provides procedural research, publications and services explaining the work of the House and its institutional role. The Chamber Research Section maintains statistical records about the work of the House, provides procedural research support to internal and external stakeholders, and manages certain research collections. It also provides secretariat support for the House Standing Committee on Procedure.
About the role
The Director, Chamber Research leads and manages a small team within the Procedure Office, including overseeing the maintenance of statistical records, production of routine publications about the sittings of the House, provision of research support, and secretariat support to the Standing Committee on Procedure. They provide advice to Members and others on procedural matters, including while undertaking clerking duties. Together with the Director, Procedural Development, the occupant of this role also provides operational leadership and strategic direction to the Procedure Office.
The key duties of the position include
1. Lead and manage the work of the Chamber Research Office.
2. Be the Secretary to the Standing Committee on Procedure.
3. Provide advice to Members and others on parliamentary procedural matters.
4. Undertake Clerk-at-the-Table and Deputy Clerk-at-the-Table duties in the Chamber and the Federation Chamber, when requested.
5. Represent the department in relevant forums and liaise with stakeholders.
