About the Team
The Data team drives the adoption of data-driven decision making across Xero, supporting both our internal users and our global community of small business owners, bookkeepers, and accountants.
We develop and deliver data services and products, including core reporting, key data dimensions, scalable analytical data processing and storage, machine learning frameworks, and API-driven prediction services.
We are experts in data architecture, data modeling, machine learning, ethical data usage, and AI service design. We also work to improve data and AI literacy across Xero.

About the Role
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will collaborate with colleagues and subject matter experts to solve complex problems using scientific methods, algorithms, and data analysis.

You will work with engineers, designers, and product owners to build and maintain innovative products and services that delight our users daily.
What you'll do:
* Analyze complex and messy data to uncover its value and contribute to our understanding of data assets.
* Apply scientific methods such as hypothesis generation, experimentation, and analysis to develop products (e.g., models, POCs).
* Lead hypothesis-driven experiments and deliver measurable impacts through holdouts.
* Maintain high coding standards, collaborating with scientists and engineers to produce robust, reproducible code.
* Work with engineers to maintain and operate end-to-end data pipelines supporting data-intensive applications.
What you'll bring:
* Practical experience in a similar analytics role.
* Proficiency with data querying (SQL), scripting (Python), and statistical software (R).
* Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
* Strong understanding of the mathematical concepts underlying these domains.
* Excellent communication skills, able to tailor messages for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
