Primary objective
Manage and provide a clinical pharmacy service for Central Australia Region (CAR) and Barkly Region Renal Services (Alice Springs Hospital,
Tennant Creek Hospital and associated dialysis sites)

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients admitted under the renal team at Alice Springs Hospital (ASH) and co-ordinate where

appropriate research activity within CAR/Barkly Renal Services and the pharmacy department.
2. Provide specialist clinical advice and support to patients and staff of CAR/Barkly Renal Services, including site visits to regional areas.
3. Co-ordinate quality improvement activities and deliver educational programs on therapeutics activities within CAR/Barkly Renal Services and

the Pharmacy Department.
4. Provide expert advice to assist with improved management of contracts with external pharmacy providers, including reporting requirements,

to ensure contracted services are used in the most cost-effective way.
5. Provide training and supervisory support to pharmacy staff, assist with performance management and peer review of pharmacy staff, and

undergo regular performance management for self.
6. Take an active role in the pharmacy senior management team at ASH, contribute to additional rosters as required and be available for

emergency duties after hours relating to responsibility of the position.
7. Maintain a commitment to ensuring contemporary knowledge and professional development through membership of appropriate

organisations and committees and participate in structured professional development activities.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to

ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent in Pharmacy and unconditional registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
2. Extensive contemporary clinical pharmacy experience (preferably in Renal) and demonstrated ability to maintain currency of clinical knowledge
3. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, and ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
4. Practical understanding and experience in the implementation of the NSQHS standards and the national accreditation scheme for health

service organisations.
5. Demonstrated experience in applying continuous quality improvement and managing change in the clinical environment.
6. Proven capacity to coordinate clinical pharmacy services, manage staff and be eligible as a Foundation and Advanced Training Resident

Preceptor.
7. Extensive experience in the development of protocols, guidelines and policies, and provision of continuing education to healthcare staff and

patient groups.
8. Willingness and ability to travel by light plane or 4-wheel drives, and reside in, remote communities for up to a week.
9. Proficiency in using Information Technology in clinical settings including substantial knowledge and experience with the use of electronic

medication management systems in acute care settings.
10. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualifications or research in clinical pharmacy, public health, education, or safety and quality.
