About the role: We are seeking a skilled and proactive Agricultural Technician/Diesel Motor Mechanic to join our client's dynamic team. This role is crucial to maintaining the operational readiness of their modern agricultural machinery and equipment fleet. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a range of diesel-powered equipment including tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency during critical farming operations. Your expertise will directly support their mission of sustainable and productive farming.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Diagnosis & Repair
Diagnose, repair, and overhaul diesel engines and components in agricultural machinery, including fuel injection systems, cooling systems, and electrical and hydraulic systems.
Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electronic faults efficiently and accurately.
Perform major and minor repairs on transmissions, steering, and braking systems.
Preventive Maintenance & Servicing
Execute scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance programs for the entire machinery fleet to ensure reliability and longevity.
Recondition and replace worn and defective parts and components, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
Fleet & Workshop Management
Test and adjust repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure all work is completed to a high standard of quality and safety.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and parts usage.
Manage workshop inventory and order necessary parts and supplies.
Field Support & Breakdowns
Respond promptly to field breakdowns, performing on-site troubleshooting and repairs to minimise operational disruptions.
Advise operators on the correct and safe use of machinery to prevent future issues.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and industry best practices.
Stay updated with technical developments and service information from machinery manufacturers.
Skills and Experience Required
A relevant trade qualification as an Agricultural Technician / Diesel Motor Mechanic (Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology or equivalent).
Proven post-apprenticeship experience, preferably within the agricultural, mining, or heavy vehicle industries.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to fault-finding.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, software, and workshop equipment.
Solid understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems in heavy machinery.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.
A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
A current driver's licence is essential. A heavy vehicle licence would be highly regarded.
