Job Description
The Systems Engineer role is a full-time, permanent position within the Operations team. It focuses on designing, integrating, and commissioning complex enforcement systems, ensuring all subsystems such as cameras, radar/LIDAR, flash units, and industrial PCs operate cohesively. The role requires strong technical expertise in electrical, electronic, and communication systems, along with civil infrastructure planning and legally defensible documentation.Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end system design for enforcement solutions.
* Manage requirements gathering and traceability.
* Oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning.
* Assist maintenance teams with complex electrical/electronic fault diagnosis.
* Perform load calculations (power budget, voltage drop, earthing, surge protection).
* Design power solutions (mains connection, UPS sizing, cable selection).
* Specify and test data acquisition/transmission solutions.
* Produce electrical drawings (schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules).
* Carry out electronic design and validation, including outsourcing small circuit boards.
* Conduct site surveys for optimal asset placement.
* Specify civil works requirements (trenching, conduit layouts, footing specs).
* Collaborate with civil contractors for safe roadside installations.
* Develop scope of work documents for outsourced manufacture and installation.
* Produce solution documentation (SOPs, user manuals, maintenance manuals).
The Successful Applicant
Required Skills And Attributes
* Knowledge of AS3000 and other relevant Australian Standards
* Understanding of networking (TCP/IP, 4G/5G routers, fibre termination) in roadside or ITS environments
* Analytical and methodical approach to diagnosing complex system faults across electrical, electronic, and mechanical components
* Ability to multitask and switch between projects while maintaining high attention to detail
* Precision in documentation to ensure legal defensibility
* Familiarity with local road authority standards (e.g., TfNSW, VicRoads, TMR) is advantageous
Training and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronic, or related field (or equivalent experience)
* Minimum 5 years of experience in systems support, field engineering, or maintenance of high-reliability electronic or industrial systems
* Strong knowledge of low-voltage DC power systems, power conditioning, and UPS
* Proficiency in reading and troubleshooting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
* Experience with embedded systems, sensor technology (LiDAR, radar), and data communication protocols
* Understanding of civil drawings and structural loads is advantageous
