About The Opportunity
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking a Senior Media Adviser who is motivated by amplifying research to make a real-world difference. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of public conversation, translating complex research into compelling stories that inform, influence and create impact beyond the University.
Working as part of a highly collaborative PR, Communications and Events team, the Senior Media Adviser partners closely with researchers, professional staff and senior leaders to identify media opportunities, manage reputational risk and deliver strategic advice. The role spans proactive media campaigns, issues management, content creation and media engagement across print, broadcast and digital platforms, offering a diverse and dynamic scope of work.

About The Role
Reporting to the Manager, Media & Communications, the Senior Media Adviser will bring advanced media expertise to manage risk and reputation, identify and deliver media opportunities, and support ECU staff and researchers to confidently engage with media.
This role requires strong judgement, excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to operate in fast-paced and sensitive environments.
Key Responsibilities Include
Plan and deliver proactive media relations campaigns that support ECU's strategic objectives, working closely with the wider media team to ensure aligned priorities.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels, providing strategic advice on reputationally sensitive media issues and coaching staff for press, radio and television interviews.
Protect and enhance ECU's reputation and brand through effective media engagement and stakeholder influence.
Research, write and edit high-quality content for internal and external audiences, including media releases, speech notes, website and research content, across print and digital channels.
Manage media enquiries, media training, interview scheduling and preparation, and support issues and crisis management as required.
Evaluate and report on media and communications activity to demonstrate impact and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key media and industry stakeholders.
Participate in planning activities and comply with ECU policies, WHS and EO requirements.
About You
About you
You are a confident communications professional with strong media judgement and an ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholders. You bring sound strategic thinking, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage reputational risk in complex environments.
Qualifications
A tertiary qualification with at least four years' subsequent relevant experience; or
Extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or
An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
You Will Bring
Demonstrated experience in a media liaison or communications role within a large organisation, or in a similar position with commensurate experience.
Strong writing, verbal communication and media advisory skills
The ability to manage risk and operate effectively under pressure
Well-established industry or media connections that support networking and engagement
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with senior academics and leaders
