Primary objective

Supports and provides collaborative, appropriate, proficient, coordinated direct and indirect clinical care for complex client presentations, including

working with and alongside less experienced nursing and midwifery staff, within the specialty area.

Context statement

This is a jointly funded position of Cancer Council NT and Katherine Hospital. Duties include delivery of cancer treatment at Katherine Hospital

oncology ward and coordination and delivery of Cancer Council NT - Support Services including providing supportive care to cancer patients

through counselling and psycho-social support. This position will provide patient centred, specialised cancer care to Oncology and Haematology

patients consistent with evidence-based practice within the Oncology Unit.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Apply specialist knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities within a defined practice area in therapeutic and professional relationships with

individuals, as well as with families, groups and communities.

2. Is recognised by the team for their expertise, is a resource for others, and engages in agreed independent practice under the supervision and

management of the team.

3. Accountable for providing sound professional advice and for assessment, planning, review, evaluation and coordination of comprehensive

client care and/or case management within the speciality area.

4. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.

5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to

ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.

2. Demonstrated highly developed clinical knowledge and skills in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy, supporting well

developed clinical decision-making and problem solving to achieve best practice healthcare outcomes.

3. Demonstrate and promote a learning environment through clinical support, instruction, and feedback including mentoring students,

graduates and less experienced staff across the multidisciplinary team.

4. Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy, including interpreting established professional

precedents and organisational policies and supporting change management.

5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to influence and convince staff and/or clients, including on sensitive matters requiring

tact and diplomacy

1. Demonstrates well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence

health care provision for clients and families.

Desirable

1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to specialty area.
