Projects Coordinator - Environmental Services
Pioneer Catchment & Landcare Group Inc. – Mackay QLD
PCL is seeking a skilled and motivated
Project Coordinator – Environmental Services
to lead and grow our expanding fee-for-service arm. This role oversees the delivery of high-quality ecological projects across the Mackay and Central Highlands regions, supporting landholders, industry partners, environmental regulators, and community stakeholders.
The Project Coordinator will manage projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring environmental outcomes are achieved and clients receive exceptional service. This is a diverse, hands-on role suited to someone with strong leadership, technical ecological knowledge, and a passion for practical conservation and land management.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and deliver ecological consulting and environmental services, ensuring all projects meet scope, budget, and compliance requirements.
Lead ecological restoration and revegetation projects, including planning, site preparation, species selection, planting, monitoring, and maintenance.
Oversee fauna, flora and habitat surveys, ecological drone surveys, and environmental assessments.
Manage integrated pest flora and fauna programmes, including invasive species control and monitoring.
Provide expert land management and bushland management advice to clients, partners, and landholders.
Coordinate site rehabilitation activities, including erosion control, weed management, and vegetation establishment.
Ensure all work aligns with WHS legislation, environmental regulations, and PCL's policies and procedures.
Leadership & Team Coordination
Lead and support field staff, subcontractors, and volunteers during project delivery.
Provide clear direction, coaching, and on-ground support to ensure high performance and safe work practices.
Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation across multiple concurrent projects.
Uphold a positive, professional team culture and promote PCL's values in all settings.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, landholders, contractors, and partner organisations.
Prepare project proposals, quotes, budgets, and work plans for fee-for-service activities.
Communicate project progress clearly with stakeholders, including written reports and site updates.
Represent PCL professionally at meetings, site visits, community events, and partner engagements.
Planning, Compliance & Reporting
Conduct risk assessments, develop work method statements, and maintain WHS documentation.
Prepare ecological reports, monitoring summaries, and environmental management plans.
Maintain accurate project records, data, site photos, GIS mapping inputs, and compliance documents.
Contribute to continuous improvement of PCL's environmental services systems, processes, and service offerings.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Demonstrated experience in project management within the environmental, natural resource management, or land management sectors.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in ecological restoration, weed management, fauna/flora surveys, or related environmental fieldwork.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and client communication.
Ability to interpret environmental regulations, management plans, and technical data.
Competency in risk management, WHS requirements, and safe work leadership.
High level of organisation, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
Physically capable of performing fieldwork in outdoor environments and varied conditions.
Current manual driver's licence.
Desirable
Qualifications in ecology, environmental science, conservation biology, natural resource management, or similar.
Experience with GIS mapping, drone operations, and ecological monitoring technologies.
Experience in integrated pest management (flora and fauna).
Previous experience in consulting, quoting, and client relationship management.
ChemCert accreditation or willingness to obtain.
First Aid and CPR certification.
