Offer description

Working with us is more than just a job, it's making a difference to people's lives. We're Queensland's electrical safety regulator, part of the Office of Industrial Relations (OIR). Our purpose is to improve electrical safety and reduce the risk of death and injury from electric shock, fire and explosion. We work with Queensland's electrical industry to help keep all Queenslanders safe around electricity, at work, at home and in the community.

We Do This By
* making sure electrical safety laws and standards are followed
* managing workers' and contractors' electrical licenses
* registering, accrediting and certifying electrical equipment
* providing electrical safety information, education and training including electrical product recalls and safety alerts.

The Lead Electrical Safety Inspector is a mobile, field-based position that supports the Electrical Safety Manager in developing, implementing and monitoring the workload of the region's inspectors. Electrical Safety Inspectors deliver the ESO's statewide compliance and engagement program, respond to complaints and incidents, and collaborate with industry and others to improve capabilities to manage electrical safety risks. Inspectors work across the entire breadth of the electrical industry, in the electrical equipment supply chain, in other high-risk industries (e.g. construction, agriculture, and manufacturing), and in non-workplace environments.

A current Queensland electrical work license is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
* monitoring and enforcing compliance by exercising the powers of an appointed inspector in accordance with the Electrical Safety Act 2002
* undertaking a lead role in the investigation of complex or contentious incidents and complaints to ensure appropriate enforcement action is taken to address breaches of electrical safety legislation
* mentoring and auditing field-based inspectors to ensure OIR operational procedures are being implemented, and inspectors are able to undertake their roles in a competent and safe manner
* providing leadership, strategic direction and support to the Manager for the development and implementation of regional interventions that support the ESO's Business Plan
* providing direction and oversight of the delivery of the region's proactive Compliance and Engagement Program
* assisting the Electrical Safety Manager with monitoring of reactive workloads and where required prioritising potential matters for Electrical Licensing Committee referral or escalation to comprehensive investigation
* managing relationships with key regional and local stakeholders in industry, commerce, government, education, training and the wider community to identify ongoing and emerging needs and issues, develop initiatives, and provide advice to the Electrical Safety Manager on these matters.
Strategic Goals of the ESO
* Partnering with industry and community to achieve electrical safety outcomes.
* Providing services that are easy to access and responsive to the needs of the industry and community.
* Assisting industry to comply, whilst ensuring there are consequences for noncompliance.
* Using a risk and evidence-based approach to design interventions and policy responses.
* Providing electrical safety information, education, and targeted interventions.
* Empowering a competent, confident, and collaborative team.

The Electrical Safety Office (ESO) helps to keep people electrically safe at work and home. We have a vision to prevent death, injury and destruction of property caused by electricity—and we work towards it by monitoring and enforcing compliance with electrical safety laws.
