This is a full-time, permanent role working in close alignment with the Company Accountant, reporting to the Financial Controller and supporting operational and project teams.
The Role
You will support the day‑to‑day accounting functions across our contracting operations, with a strong focus on project accounting, job costing, and compliance, while contributing to broader finance processes under guidance from senior finance leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
* Supporting budget preparation and forecasting for project-based work
* Preparing monthly management reports and assisting with financial statements directors, management, shareholders, and statutory bodies.
* Supporting financial investigations, preparing reports, undertaking audits, and advising on matters such as business acquisitions, mergers, capital financing, suspected fraud, insolvency, and taxation.
* Monitoring job costing, subcontractor costs, materials, and project variances
* Assisting with BAS, GST, payroll tax, and statutory compliance and providing assurance about the accuracy of information contained in financial reports and their compliance with statutory requirements
* Supporting preparation of tax returns and financial information for review
* Performing reconciliations and ensuring accuracy of accounting records
* Assisting with audits, financial reviews, and internal control processes
* Working with project teams on cost tracking, claims, and financial reporting
* Supporting cash flow monitoring and project financial analysis
* Assisting with the maintenance and effective use of accounting and job costing systems
What You’ll Bring
Relevant Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Commerce, or Finance
* CPA or CA qualification (or working towards) preferred
Relevant Skills & Experience
* Minimum 2+ years’ experience in an accounting role
* Experience with Xero, MYOB, or Jonas Premier (job costing experience highly regarded)
* Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups)
* Understanding/exposure to construction, contracting, or project-based accounting (progress claims, retentions, variations) highly desirable
* Knowledge of Australian tax, BAS, GST, and subcontractor obligations
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively within a finance team
* Experience preparing financial reports and tax returns for a small-to-medium business.
