Thornton Engineering has a position for a Welding Inspector to oversee inspections, monitor welder performance and maintain traceability documentation. The team is seeking a capable and driven individual to join its Pressure Vessel & Heat Exchanger Division.
Job Description
The Welding Inspector will be responsible for conducting visual inspections of welds in line with AS/NZS and ASME codes. They will also manage welder qualifications, requalification processes and maintain MDR records.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct visual inspections (VI) of welds in accordance with industry standards.
* Manage the qualification and requalification of welders, ensuring they meet project and code requirements.
* Monitor welding processes, consumables and equipment to ensure compliance with WPS.
* Record welding activities in the QC database and project work packs.
* Mentor and develop welding staff to improve skills and reduce weld defects.
* Liaise with supervisors and inspectors to ensure smooth handovers.
* Assist quality teams with documentation and NDT contractor management.
Requirements
For this role we are looking for someone with:
* A trade qualification in welding or fabrication.
* Preferably an AS1796 Welding Supervisor Certificate 10 or equivalent inspector certification.
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role within a pressure vessel workshop plus 5 years' trade experience.
* Strong knowledge of AS and ASME welding codes and NDT requirements.
* Proven experience across manual welding processes and automated systems.
* Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead and mentor under pressure.
