Primary objective
The role is required to analyse, interpret, evaluate, monitor and develop insights to support the development of the Northern
Territory tourism industry and visitor economy.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Senior Manager and Senior Director Strategy and Insights in fulfilling research commitments to the Visitor
Economy Strategy 2032.
2. Source, gather, process, analyse and interpret data to produce reports for a variety of purposes and stakeholders that
provide insights into market, industry and social trends.
1. Communicate findings from results to a diverse range of audiences through written and verbal reports and presentations.
2. Maintain and update key databases such as visitor statistics, aviation, parks, cruise ships, and other diverse sources.
3. Respond to ad-hoc requests for tourism research related information along with managing a specialist Analyst.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong knowledge of and experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
1. In depth knowledge of data, business intelligence systems and processes, including the use of statistical software
packages (Power BI, Tableau), familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and use of complex data sets.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software package (Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign).
4. Well-developed analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify and resolve data issues and questions
and turning diverse data into relevant and actionable insights.
1. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to express ideas clearly and fluently; with data
and images; in writing and through personal presentations.
6. Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently as well as
part of a team with minimal supervision.
7. Demonstrated personal attributes: attention to detail, commercial acumen, initiative, collaboration, flexibility, sensitivity.
8. Understanding of economic concepts and Northern Territory tourism industry and visitor economy.
Desirable
1. Tertiary Qualifications in a related discipline such as tourism, market research, statistics or business.
2. Knowledge of the tourism industry and an understanding of the local, national and international factors that impact on
the Northern Territory.
