The Shire of Murray is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking governance professional to lead our Governance and Risk function. Reporting directly to the Director Corporate Services, this influential leadership role plays a critical part in strengthening organisational integrity, supporting transparent decision-making, and fostering a proactive risk culture across the organisation.
As the Manager Governance and Risk, you will lead the development and ongoing enhancement of the Shire's governance and risk frameworks to ensure they remain contemporary, practical and aligned with legislative requirements and best practice. The role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact within a growing and community-focused organisation.
You will oversee the Shire's governance systems and statutory obligations, support Council and Committee processes, coordinate local government elections, guide policy development, and lead enterprise risk management and business continuity planning.

About You
You are an experienced governance leader who thrives in a complex and dynamic environment. You have a strong understanding of legislative compliance and enjoy translating technical requirements into practical solutions that support organisational outcomes.
You will bring:
* Extensive experience in governance, compliance and/or risk management, ideally within local government or the public sector.
* Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act 1995 and associated regulations.
* Demonstrated experience interpreting legislation and applying governance principles in practice.
* Experience developing and implementing risk management frameworks and fostering risk-aware cultures.
* Highly developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proven leadership capability, with experience mentoring and developing staff.
* Sound judgement and the confidence to provide advice at an executive level.
The position on offer is a full-time contract, working 76 hours across a 9-day fortnight. A cash salary of $127,000 per annum will be offered.
