WACHS is seeking a suitably experienced Director of Medical Education to join WACHS Central.This is a Fixed Term, Full Time appointment at 1.0FTE, 80 hours per fortnight, to cover periods of leave from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.There may be opportunities for future role coverage, subject to service requirements.Consultant Year 1-9: $412,161 - $523,436 per annum, inclusive of base salary, Professional Development allowance and 12% superannuation.The above salary is as per WA Health System Medical Practitioners AMA Industrial Agreement 2024. Rates effective as of Sept 2025. Our 13,000 staff are at the heart of the communities we serve, with the ambition to be leading provider of rural and remote healthcare.The Medical Education Unit (MEU) The MEU supports the education and training of doctors in WACHS, including simulation-based education. It monitors the supervision and welfare of junior medical officers and has oversight of medical students in WACHS sites. WACHS recognises the association between the provision of high‐quality healthcare and the education of our medical workforce.About The Role Step into a senior leadership role as the Director of Medical Education for WACHS. Reporting to the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS), you will lead the strategic direction and delivery of postgraduate medical education and training across the organisation.This role is central to strengthening WACHS as a leader in rural medical education, expanding training capacity, and building sustainable workforce pathways across country WA.Working with a dedicated team, you will bring strong experience in medical education, a passion for rural training, and the ability to shape and deliver strategic initiatives that support the development of the future medical workforce.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and lead the implementation of the WACHS Medical Education and Training Strategic Plan.Develop and nurture partnerships with external stakeholders including but not limited to WA medical schools, metropolitan Health Services, Post Graduate Medical Council of WA (PMCWA) and Australian Specialist Colleges.Represent WACHS on committees to advocate and advise on medical training and education requirements and development for country doctors.Liaise with WACHS regional management, particularly Regional Directors and Regional Directors Medical Services, regarding issues related to medical education.In collaboration with the regional Directors of Clinical Training, assist in the performance management and career development of early career doctors, including pastoral care.Responsible for the operational oversight of the Medical Education Unit (MEU) including reporting, financial management, and human resource management.The Successful Candidates Will DemonstrateGeneral registration with the Medical Board of Australia.Extensive clinical experience and demonstrated commitment to medical education.Highly developed contemporary knowledge of issues and trends related to medical education.Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including reporting, negotiation, advocacy and leadership skills.Benefits Included To The RoleFlexible working arrangements.Competitive Salary Package: Inclusive of 12% employer superannuation contributions and a generous professional development allowance.Salary Packaging: Access to salary packaging arrangements up to $19,000 p.a.Generous Leave Entitlements: 4 weeks annual leave, 3 weeks professional development leave, 10 days sick leave, plus other forms of leave.Professional Development Opportunities.Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Statement WA Health is committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination in the provision of our service.
