Primary objective Support school operational improvement by contributing to the improvement of school operational policy and systems, and responding to enquiries, issues and ministerial and executive queries relating to school operational matters. Context statement School Operations provides operational advice and services to government schools, tailored to their needs and focused on supporting their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government policies and department strategic priorities in NT Government schools. The position works within a small collaborative team based in Darwin that supports all regions and contributes to the priorities and strategic direction of the Department of Education and Training across the NT. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Lead the development and implementation of improvement strategies relating to school operations. 2. Provide high-level strategic advice to the Senior Director and Directors across the division as well as principals, school improvement leaders, and corporate managers in relation to school policies, procedures and systems. 3. Undertake and lead complex project work relating to divisional priorities as required. 4. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships across the agency and liaise effectively with other government and non- government agencies and community organisations. 5. Initiate and undertake research and prepare high level, comprehensive briefings, reports and papers. 6. Development and implementation of procedures to ensure efficient provision of support to the Senior Director and Directors across the division. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated high level writing skills including experience preparing high level documents and correspondence including policies, guidelines and briefings, with the ability to quickly acquire comprehensive knowledge of government and ministerial protocols and procedures including standard formatting of correspondence. 2. Demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of project management approaches, conceptual, analytical and problem-solving techniques to support system improvement. 3. High level understanding of strategic priorities in education and the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Department of Education and Training’s objectives and the context of issues related to remote areas of the Northern Territory. 4. Proven ability to lead and influence others to work effectively and collaboratively to achieve strategic improvement outcomes in a climate of significant change and complexity. 5. High level communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate with influence, establish productive networks with a range of stakeholders and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
