Overview
Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology – John Hunter Hospital. Fixed term temporary full time (12 months; part time hours may be considered). John Hunter Hospital is a leading tertiary referral centre in the Hunter New England Local Health District, seeking experienced consultants to join the Maternity and Gynaecology team. We are looking for specialists with expertise in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, or both. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-quality, patient-centred service within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high level clinical care and leadership in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, or combined Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
* Participate in the on-call roster, ensuring 24/7 coverage for acute obstetric and gynaecological services.
* Supervise and support junior medical staff and actively participate in teaching and research activities.
* Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
* Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to deliver multidisciplinary care.
Essential Criteria
* Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
* Registration (or ability for registration) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
* Extensive expertise in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, or both, with a strong clinical background in managing complex cases.
* Commitment to teaching, research and ongoing professional development.
* Demonstrated ability to work within a team and provide leadership in a multidisciplinary setting.

Expedited Specialist Pathway
International Medical Graduates (IMGs) seeking specialist registration in Australia may be eligible for the Expedited Specialist Pathway. This pathway offers a streamlined route for eligible doctors to gain recognition and start practicing sooner. It currently covers General Practice, Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with plans for expansion. SIMGs must hold a specialist qualification on the Medical Board's Expedited Specialist Pathway accepted qualifications list. Eligible specialists may start practicing once specialist registration is granted and supervised position is approved, with a six (6) month supervised practice period.
