Your Role At Thales Australia’s Mulwala site, you’ll be part of a specialised chemical manufacturing facility that produces chemicals, propellants, and high explosives for both Defence and commercial use. As a Production Engineer, you’ll play an important role within the Australian Munitions engineering team. Your focus will be on ensuring our products and manufacturing processes are safe, reliable, and efficient, while also driving continuous improvement. In this role, you’ll contribute to both technical and operational outcomes by working across a variety of engineering activities, including: Supporting the development of new technologies and products Carrying out testing, inspections, and technical analysis Assisting with scaling up products for manufacturing (industrialisation) Supporting production planning and day-to-day operations Participating in risk assessments, including HAZOP and Major Hazard Facility (MHF) reviews Driving continuous improvement and managing changes to processes and systems You’ll work within established engineering standards and governance frameworks, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and environmental compliance. Your Experience To be successful in this role, you’ll bring: Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance (required for working with regulated information) A degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Strong problem-solving skills, with experience in troubleshooting and fault finding Good communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical reports An understanding of engineering documentation and change management processes A solid commitment to health and safety, with knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and HAZOP methodologies A collaborative mindset, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders It’s easy to dismiss the perfect opportunity if you don’t see yourself as the perfect fit.
