South West Aboriginal Medical Services (SWAMS) is a Not-for-Profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation. Founded on the principles of self-determination, empowerment, and freedom of choice, SWAMS is dedicated to ensuring everyone has the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Our mission is to deliver best-practice and culturally appropriate holistic health services to the Indigenous population of the South-West region of Western Australia.

We are currently looking for an Occupational Therapist in Bunbury.

The Allied Health team currently consists of a Coordinator, Social Worker, Physiotherapist, Nurse and Occupational Therapist. SWAMS is a family friendly organisation therefore we are open to looking at part time or full time options. Please let us know what works for you and your family.

About the role of Occupational Therapist

The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for supporting clients to improve their independence, achieve physical and social goals, and enjoy quality of life within the community. You will conduct appropriate assessments as per the client's needs and help them engage in activities they find meaningful, like self-care and leisure. By working independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team across multiple services, you will enhance your clinical skills while developing long lasting professional relationships.

Duties include:

* Establishing meaningful relationships and provide culturally responsive assessments and interventions for clients with a varied range of clinical needs.
* Liaising with service providers and community agencies to ensure seamless continuum of care across settings that meets the needs of clients and carers.
* Creating tailored treatment plans that align with client's personal goals and capabilities.
* Apply therapeutic interventions based on the latest evidence to address functional limitations and promote independence.
* Provide residents, families, and caregivers with education and strategies to maximize independence and ensure safety.
* Taking a role in continuous quality improvements in the delivery of client services.

What you bring

Along with having an understanding of working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, your experience and qualifications will include:

* Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy; with registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
* Proven clinical skills and experience in the provision of occupational therapy services.
* Demonstrated experience with evidence-based practice
* High level of written, interpersonal and communication skills

Although beneficial, Aboriginality is not an essential requirement for this role. We do, however, encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply.
