Position Description
An opportunity is available for an experienced Machine Operator – XDM Operator to join our Production team in a permanent full-time capacity at our Pakenham facility. This role is responsible for the safe operation of the XDM steel cutting machine and associated equipment to support structural steel production. The successful candidate will play a key role in meeting daily manufacturing targets while ensuring safe handling, cutting, and processing of raw steel materials.
Responsibility
The role includes (but not limited to):
· Operate the XDM structural steel cutting machine to meet production requirements.
· Set up and monitor cutting operations to ensure accuracy and quality.
· Load and unload raw steel materials using overhead crane equipment.
· Perform basic troubleshooting, adjustments, and machine checks to maintain smooth operation.
· Read and interpret cutting lists, production schedules, and steel measurements.
· Maintain safety, operational, and housekeeping standards at all times.
· Conduct pre-start inspections and report issues, hazards, or machine faults.
· Assist with general warehouse tasks when required.
· Ensure compliance with all WHS procedures, policies, and safe work practices.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
· Previous experience as a Machine Operator in a manufacturing or steel production environment.
· Experience operating XDM, XDN, or similar automated steel processing machinery.
· Knowledge of working with structural steel materials.
· Experience using overhead cranes for lifting, moving, and positioning steel.
· Ability to accurately measure, cut, and process steel components.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of production workflows.
· Ability to follow instructions, production lists, and safety procedures.
· Forklift licence (LF).
· Experience in steel fabrication or warehouse operations.
· Background in structural steel for domestic or commercial construction.
· Strong safety focus and awareness of manual handling practices.
