Public Sector People is working with a local council to recruit an experienced Civil Engineer for an initial 4‐month temporary contract assignment.
We are looking for a candidate with a minimum of 5 years' experience within Local Government, who has strong contract management experience overseeing the delivery of urban design, streetscape and public realm construction projects. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing contractors, ensuring project delivery outcomes are achieved.
This role suits a hands‐on engineer who is confident working across both design and construction phases, has excellent stakeholder management skills, and can hit the ground running in a fast‐paced local government environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Contract management of civil infrastructure and streetscape construction projects
* Managing contractors and consultants throughout project delivery
* Preparing and reviewing tender documentation and participating in tender evaluations
* Monitoring project scope, budgets, timelines and risks
* Reviewing engineering designs, specifications and construction documentation
* Coordinating procurement and construction activities
* Preparing project reports and providing updates to key stakeholders
* Managing project risks and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation
* Liaising with internal departments, service authorities and external stakeholders
* Supporting the successful delivery of urban design, streetscape and public realm projects
About You
* Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
* Minimum 5 years' experience within Local Government
* Demonstrated contract management experience delivering civil construction projects
* Experience managing streetscape, public realm, urban design or municipal infrastructure projects
* Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Experience reviewing civil engineering designs and construction documentation
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD and civil design principles, particularly drainage and footpath infrastructure
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Ability to work autonomously and provide technical guidance to project teams
