Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated junior medical doctor to join the cardiothoracic department as an unaccredited cardiothoracic trainee.

Cardiothoracic Surgery

The cardiothoracic surgical Service of RPAH, in which the successful applicant will work, offers comprehensive cardiac and thoracic surgical management to a large tertiary referral hospital.

The Cardiothoracic department incorporates a broad multidisciplinary team managing inpatients and outpatients. The successful applicant will need to be able to work efficiently within these teams and communicate well with other professionals within RPAH and the community.

Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to provide expert care and clinical advice to patients, carers and other health care professionals across the speciality areas of cardiothoracic surgery. The role will be responsible for (1) managing a cardiothoracic workload including theatre duties, ward patient management, and liaising with consultant surgeons and the multidisciplinary team; (2) unit teaching, surgical training and supervision of junior medical officers; (3) participation in clinical audit and quality reviews; and (4) on‐call duties as per rotation.

Qualifications

* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Excellent communication (verbal and written), organisational and time‐management skills, and computer skills. Experience and competency with hospital‐based electronic medical record systems and electronic prescribing.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a problem‐solving multidisciplinary team within a clinical setting.
* A professional attitude and flexibility in work role with preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on‐call rosters, and the required rotations between services and geographical locations to deliver patient care.
* Ability to work within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment & expertise and a commitment to Continuous Professional Development, quality improvement, patient safety & risk management. Up to date with ALS, BLS and DETECT (or equivalent).
* Demonstrated commitment to SLHD vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align with the NSW Health CORE values and SLHD Values and behaviours charter.
* Minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience including 3‐6 months of clinical experience in a cardiothoracic surgical unit.
