The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercial Estimator to join a reputable construction contractor in Townsville. In this role, you will prepare tenders, cost plans, and budgets for a broad range of commercial building projects, working closely with senior leadership, project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
You will play a key part in securing new work, managing pre‑construction processes, and supporting strategic bidding across the region. This position suits someone who enjoys a mix of technical detail, commercial analysis, and proactive stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Cost Planning
Prepare detailed cost estimates, tenders, and budgets for commercial construction projects.Analyse architectural drawings, engineering plans, and specifications to determine cost cost plans from concept through to fully documented stages.Undertake quantity take‑offs and develop accurate BOQs and trade breakdowns.Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination
Compile and issue tender packages to subcontractors and suppliers.Evaluate quotations, compare scopes, and identify clarifications or exclusions.Build strong relationships with subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable Management
Assist in developing tender strategies and bid programmes.Coordinate tender submissions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.Support preparation of methodology statements, preliminaries, construction programs, and risk assessments.Attend tender briefings, site inspections, and risk workshops. Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential
3-5+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction.Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and services drawings.Solid understanding of commercial building methodologies, trade scopes, and construction sequencing.Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Buildsoft, CostX) and MS Excel.Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.Effective communication skills and the ability to build strong supplier relationships.
