Are you an experienced HR professional who thrives in fast-moving environments and knows how to get things done? We're a growing aquatics and fitness business based business in Cairns with around 90 team members. With an expansion underway that will add 40 new staff in a short timeframe, we're bringing on our very first dedicated HR professional to own the people function and help us build the systems, culture, and capability to match our ambitions.
We need someone who can hit the ground running, managing volume onboarding, building HR processes from scratch, and working autonomously alongside our General Manager from day one. If you're looking for a role where you can genuinely shape something, this is it.
THE ROLE
As our HR & People Advisor, you'll be the go-to person for everything people-related. Your key responsibilities will include:
• Managing end-to-end recruitment, advertising roles, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and making offers
• Leading a high-volume onboarding program as we bring 40 new team members on board during our expansion
• Designing and embedding a smooth, engaging onboarding experience that sets every new starter up for success
• Maintaining accurate employee records, contracts, and HR documentation within Employment Hero
• Supporting managers with practical HR guidance on day-to-day people matters
• Building and improving HR policies, procedures, and frameworks as we scale
• Coordinating training, compliance checks, and staff communications
• Acting as a capable payroll backup — working alongside our existing payroll officer to understand our payroll processes and step in confidently when cover is needed
• Being a trusted, approachable point of contact for our whole team
ABOUT YOU
You'll thrive in this role if you:
• Have 2+ years of hands-on experience in an HR Advisor, HR Coordinator, or People & Culture role
• Have managed bulk or volume onboarding before, you know how to bring a lot of people on quickly without cutting corners
• Are confident building HR processes and documentation from scratch, not just maintaining what's already there
• Have a working knowledge of payroll, you don't need to be a payroll specialist, but you're comfortable with the basics and happy to learn our processes
• Hold a qualification in HR, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Are highly organised, self-directed, and calm under pressure
• Communicate clearly and warmly, people feel at ease coming to you
• Have experience with Employment Hero or a similar HRIS - Employment Hero familiarity is a genuine advantage here
• Have a passion for health, fitness, or working in an active, energetic environment
WHAT WE OFFER
• A rare opportunity to build an HR function from the ground up, your decisions will shape how we operate
• Direct access to senior leadership and a genuine seat at the table
• Modern HR and payroll systems, we run Employment Hero so you can get moving from day one
• A supportive, high-energy team culture that genuinely cares about wellbeing
• Complimentary access at all of our facilities
• Flexible working arrangements, open to full-time or part-time
• Real room to grow your career as the business expands
