About this role
The Climate Change Authority (the Authority) is an independent statutory body established under the Climate Change Authority Act 2011 to to provide expert advice to the Australian Government on climate change policy and how Australia is progressing towards a prosperous and resilient economic transition to net zero emissions.
The Business Support Unit manages the operations on behalf of the Chair and Authority members, the Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Senior Executives, through provision of logistical support for Authority meetings and stakeholder engagements, coordination of briefings and other papers, secretariat duties including minute taking for various committees and other activities to support organisational operations and performance.
The key duties of the position include:
Key duties for both the Business Support Advisor and Senior Business Support Advisor include:
* Liaising with the Chair and Authority members, in consultation with the Authority’s Senior Executives, to organise Authority meetings, including coordinating meeting papers and preparing meeting minutes and outcomes summaries in a timely manner.
* Providing secretariat duties for the fortnightly Executive Committee and Project Steering Committee meetings, including coordinating and distributing meeting papers and preparing meeting minutes and outcomes summaries.
* Providing secretariat duties for the fortnightly All Staff meetings including coordinating Agenda, Chair and presenters.
* Preparing meeting minutes for the Authority’s Audit Committee, Consultative Committee and Security Committee meetings.
* Coordinating updates to Senate Estimates briefs and preparing consolidated electronic packs for Senior Executives.
* Coordinating and preparing responses to Questions on Notice.
* Providing administrative support for the Authority’s Freedom of Information (FOI) function, including drafting correspondence and preparing schedules of documents.
* Preparing high quality responses to general enquiries and coordinating requests.
* Providing project management (PM) support across the Authority, including maintaining standard operating procedures, accurate templates and managing the completion of PM evaluation.
* Assisting with managing the Authority’s Key Performance Indicators, including tracking and reporting against relevant criteria.
* Assisting with the Authority's internal communications, including maintaining the intranet.
* Ability to appropriately manage confidential and sensitive information.

At the APS5 level, we are looking for motivated and skilled candidates who can:
* Work independently under broad supervision within established procedures and operational guidance.
* Demonstrate Microsoft Excel skills at an intermediate level (highly desirable) – although training can be provided.
At the APS6 level, in addition to the above capabilities, we are seeking candidates who can:
* Independently undertake investigative work and make decisions, under general guidance.
* Prepare standard operating procedures, based on research and evidence, to support decision making.
* Lead projects, such as the preparation of the Authority’s annual Corporate Plan.
* Guide and mentor junior staff within the Business Support Unit.
* Demonstrate Microsoft Excel skills at an intermediate level (highly desirable) – although training can be provided.
Eligibility
* Citizenship: to be eligible for employment with the Authority you must be an Australian citizen.
* Security Clearance: this position requires an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Baseline security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
* Pre-employment checks: your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, identity checks and referee checks.
