About the branch The Chief People Officer (CPO) Branch is responsible for providing a broad range of human resources advice and services to the clients of the PWSS - Parliamentarians and Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 employees. This includes development of policies and advice on human resource matters during the employment life cycle, development and delivery of training to address identified capability gaps, and policies, advice, and services related to work health and safety and wellbeing in the workplace. The Branch also provides 24-hour independent and confidential support services to participants of Commonwealth Parliamentary Workplaces (CPWs).
About the team The HR Advice Section offers advice and guidance to Parliamentarians and their staff on various HR functions, including restructures, recruitment, probation, performance management, deferrals, suspensions, and terminations.
The key duties of the position include The Director, HR Advice, is responsible for leading best practice HR solutions to support effective decision-making. With a focus on risk and the Agency's reputation, the Director plays a vital role in contributing to the service delivery functions of the PWSS.
This role is ideal for an organized and professional leader capable of achieving results across diverse tasks. The position operates in a fast-paced environment, requiring highly-developed communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead, motivate staff, and build productive relationships with stakeholders.
Key responsibilities: Prepare timely, high-quality advice to support employment decision-making across the employee life cycle, ensuring compliance with legislation including the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 (MoPS Act), the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 (the EA), and the Fair Work Act 2009 (FW Act). Coordinate and prepare detailed written materials such as business cases, Senate Estimate briefs, Ministerial and agency briefs. Develop HR policies and strategies to promote high-quality outcomes and continuous workplace improvement. Maintain effective stakeholder relationships with parliamentarians, MoP(S) Act employees, senior executives, and colleagues from the Department of Finance, IPEA, and other parliamentary departments. Maintain key reporting mechanisms with detailed data analytics and insights. Perform other duties as required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
