Primary objective
Responsible for the development, coordination and management of events and communications led by the department.
Context statement
The Communications and Media team provides strategic media, marketing, communications, events management and
stakeholder engagement for all areas of the Department of Education and Training.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, coordinate and deliver departmental events throughout the year, for example NT Training Awards, WorldSkills,
World Teachers Day Awards and other departmental events and internal functions.
2. Project manage events including booking venues, catering, delegate registration, procurement and budgets.
3. Develop and manage communication plans, sponsorship packages, promotional and marketing materials.
4. Develop and maintain effective working relationships and networks with peers, sponsors and other stakeholders at local
and national levels.
5. Prepare comprehensive briefings, including ministerial correspondence, speech notes, run sheets, and communication
plans.
6. Provide expert advice to senior executives, employees and external stakeholders on event and protocol requirements.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in events management with attention to detail, client focus and proven ability to interpret the
political, social, and organisational environment.
2. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly to
develop communication plans, marketing and promotional materials, ministerial correspondence and reports.
3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, collaborative, and problem-solving skills demonstrating the ability to build,
nurture and sustain positive stakeholder relationships.
4. Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at one time with competing deadlines.
5. Experience in effectively managing contracts, including knowledge of governance, financial procedures and budget
management.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment with a range of stakeholders and people
from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in event management, communications or a related field.
Further information
There may be a need to travel intra or interstate and a requirement to participate in events which occur outside normal
working hours. The applicant must have a current Working with Children Notice Clearance, be prepared to have national
police check and hold a current NT driver’s licence or be able to obtain.
