About the role

You will engage with men (17+) who have used family or domestic violence, providing counselling, individual sessions, co-facilitating evidence-based Men’s Behaviour Change groups and provide counselling to men who are victim-survivors of domestic, family or sexual violence. You’ll conduct assessments, manage risk, and support participants who have used DFV to develop insight into the impact of their behaviour.

The role is guided by a strong commitment to the safety of women and children and includes close collaboration with a Women’s Advocate and key referral agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery

•Intake and assessment of men, providing counselling and psychoeducation for men who use violence against their family.

•Appropriately manage and respond to all referrals, which will come from internal sources and multiple external stakeholders.

•Provision of child-centred and parenting related individual sessions with men to explore their role as fathers and their understanding of and responses to their children’s experiences.

•Preparation, planning and co-facilitation of men’s behaviour change program.

•Complete comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning where required.

•Refer to other services, including mental health, alcohol, and drug services, employment, and education and training providers.

•Work with the co-facilitator and the Women’s Advocate for the safety of victim-survivors.

•Complete Safety review and debrief after each group and individual session to minimise risk.

•Understand and adhere to behavioural change accountability.

•Collect feedback and monitoring of the impact of the program.

•On-refer clients to other services and community organisations to ensure they receive appropriate support for their presenting needs.

•Actively engage in integrative/collaborative work practices. Maintain confidentiality and duty of care, including identification of family and domestic violence and suicidality.

•Maintain current knowledge of legislative, policy and operational matters related to domestic, family and sexual violence.

•Counsellors may also be required to provide counselling and support to male victim-survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence.

About You:

You’re a passionate and skilled practitioner with experience working with men who use violence, or in complex domestic and family violence settings. You are confident in group facilitation, risk assessment, and trauma-informed care — and you’re committed to creating safer futures.

Essential:

* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or similar
* Experience in DFV, men’s behaviour change or related areas
* Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
* Capacity to manage challenging behaviour and complex casework
* Understanding of gendered violence, accountability, and child safety frameworks
* Proficiency in using technology and maintaining confidential records
* Current driver’s licence and QLD Blue Card
* Desirable:
* Familiarity with Human Services Quality Framework
* Group facilitation experience in behavioural change programs

•The successful applicant will be required to undertake a National Police Check prior to starting employment
