Seeking an Experienced Payroll Officer for a State Government Department with an immediate start.

Your new company
Hays Recruitment TSV is delighted to collaborate with a Queensland Government Department that provides support, care, and supervision services to young people. They are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Officer for an immediate start to join their busy and dedicated team.
Your new role
As the Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for the processing of staff payroll requirements, guaranteeing all employees are paid correctly and on time, ensuring all compliance & legislation that governs the terms and conditions of employment in Queensland are met, and entering data with accuracy and precision.
Key Responsibilities

* Build and demonstrate cultural capability to support an inclusive workplace.
* Accurately process and validate all fortnightly payroll changes for the Centre, ensuring personnel records and establishment data remain current.
* Process and validate shift worker timesheets in EmpLive, including overtime and leave, and liaise with Shift Supervisors to maintain approval requirements.
* Maintain up‐to‐date knowledge of relevant legislation, awards, agreements, and employment policies impacting Centre staff.
* Work collaboratively with shared service providers, rostering staff, and centre managers to ensure accurate transfer of information and payroll outcomes in Aurion/HR.
* Deliver a responsive, problem‐solving payroll and HR service, working across teams to meet employee needs.
* Maintain strong working knowledge of Aurion/HR and supporting systems, including Excel and related databases.
* Ensure all employee records are managed securely and in accordance with privacy, departmental, and archiving requirements.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following:
1. The ability to carry out accurate preparation or completion of scheduled payroll and special pay runs as and when required, by ensuring eligibility of leave and associated payments, correct costing and appropriate approvals have been applied.
2. Undertake timely and accurate processing of timesheets and associated payroll entries (e.g., leave forms) and allowances to generate employee pays, and relevant reports in accordance with approved payroll claims.
3. Calculate and process termination payments as and when required.
4. Competent in coordinating, monitoring and preparing reports for all job and plant costs as required.
5. Be able to execute efficient administration of payroll information, whilst ensuring accurate and confidential records are always maintained by filing hard and soft copy employee records.
6. The ability to learn new systems quickly.
7. Ability to pass a criminal history check.
8. Hold a current Working with Children's Blue Card or the ability to obtain.
What you'll get in return
In return, you will gain a fantastic temporary opportunity with the possibility of extension for a prominent and active Queensland State government department. You will undertake a Monday – Friday temporary position, with an immediate start. The general spread of working hours is between 8am-5pm, and you will receive an attractive AO3 pay + Super.
9. Immediately available temporary contract.
10. $51.12 per hour + Super.
11. Based in Townsville.
12. Full-time hours each week (36.25)
13. Weekly Pay.
