As part of their growth, we are seeking a Principal Embedded Systems Engineer to be a hands-on technical leader to drive the design, development, and delivery of their next-generation medical technologies. This pivotal role is responsible for balancing strategic vision with practical, technical execution across the entire product lifecycle.
About the role
As Principal Embedded Systems Engineer, you will be a key technical leader, responsible for the end-to-end product development cycle from initial feasibility to manufacturing transfer. This is a full-time, on-site position in Brisbane.
You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams—including electronics, software, and mechanical systems—and work directly with the executive leadership team to drive key outcomes. This is a hands-on role for a technical innovator who can build and mentor high-performing teams while ensuring commercial and regulatory success.
Responsibilities
* Lead the entire product development cycle from architecture and prototyping through to manufacturing.
* Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
* Direct the seamless integration of electronics, software, mechanical, and RF subsystems.
* Oversee regulatory compliance for Class I medical device product development.
* Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables while maintaining engineering excellence.
* Drive intellectual property creation and support commercial growth.
* Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including research partners and manufacturers.
Qualifications
* 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles within regulated sectors like medical, consumer, or automotive.
* Strong expertise in electronics, embedded software development, and systems integration.
* Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams through to commercialisation, with experience delivering at least one new product from concept to market.
* In-depth knowledge of commercial product development for medical and consumer electronics.
* Experience with verification, validation, and manufacturing transfer.
* A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
Bonus points if you also have
* A strong background in neuroelectronics, real-time control systems, or signal processing.
* Experience with cloud systems (AWS, Linux).
* A track record of published patents or innovative R&D contributions.
* Experience scaling teams in a fast-paced technology environment.
