Are you a founding or senior engineer who's built products from zero to one, has real AI experience, and wants to be the forward deployed engineer inside a profitable services business, building its AI workflows into production alongside the founder?
You'd join a profitable, well established and successful business, run by a founder who's curious about AI and has already built rough prototypes and designs for products inside and outside the company. He needs a founding engineer to come in and own all of it end to end. Make the technical and architectural calls, build the real product, and shape where the company goes next.
The company
They've spent over ten years becoming a name people trust. They work across multiple states on some of the biggest projects in the country, including data centres for Amazon and Microsoft. And they've done all of it as the challenger, out competing companies far bigger than them on the metrics that matter.
This isn't a startup hoping to find a business underneath it one day. There's a real one here, and it's profitable. The founder believes the next chapter gets built with AI, and he's looking for the person to own that part with him and build it for real.
The role
You'd be the first engineer in the business and the person who owns the technology end to end. The founder knows this industry and its customers better than anyone. You'd work alongside him to turn his thinking into a plan, then you decide what gets built and how it scales.
In practice:
* Working with the founder to turn his prototypes and ideas into a real plan, and deciding what to build first
* Building it for real. The likely first project is an estimating and ordering platform that plugs into live inventory and pricing and takes payments, built to the standard a real customer facing platform needs
* Designing systems that turn slow, error prone manual work into something fast and repeatable. In this industry, pricing a single job can swing by more than a million dollars depending on who's doing the sums. Software that gets it right every time wins more work
* Bringing AI agents into the day to day, working alongside the team to cut admin and put the right information in front of people at the right moment
* Owning the calls that matter. The stack, the architecture, what gets built first. And knowing when it's time to bring in a second engineer and grow a team around you
* You don't need to know the industry walking in. You'll pick it up the way any good engineer does when they care about what they're building.
What you'll bring
You're an excellent full stack engineer first, with the judgement that comes from having owned real decisions, rather than shipping features inside someone else's structure.
* You've built things end to end and stood behind how they were designed
* You're comfortable being the most senior technical person in the room, making the calls and backing them
* You've been building with AI properly for a year or two now. Agents, the modern stack. And you're fluent in TypeScript, React and Next.js
* You can sit with people who aren't technical, work out what they actually need, and turn it into something real without it being spelled out
* You think about where the money is as much as clean code. What to build first, what can wait
If you haven't done every part of that, we'd still like to hear from you. We care more how you think than whether you tick every box.
Why it's worth a look
This one's rare. Most engineers have to choose between the ownership of an early stage business and the security of an established one. This is both. A profitable, growing company that's already proven itself, handing one person the keys to build the technology that takes it to the next level.
