The Prospect
Are you currently studying towards a qualification in Environmental Health? Join our supportive team that works closely with community stakeholders to deliver services that help make the city a safe and healthy place to live.
As the Environmental Health Assistant, you will provide operational support to the Community Health team, assisting with compliance activities to achieve strong environmental health outcomes and best practice standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking regular water sampling of aquatic facilities in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Inspecting aquatic facilities and skin penetration establishments to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Conducting environmental water and food sampling programs.
- Participating in food business and other health inspections alongside qualified officers.
About You
- Studying for Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or similar qualification. Undergraduates must have successfully completed their first year of studies.
- Working knowledge of related legislation including Local Government Act, Food Act, Environmental Protection Act, Public Health Act and local laws.
- Effective written, verbal communication skills, including the ability to participate in negotiations and reconcile issues with stakeholders.
Please note: To be eligible for this position, applicants must be undertaking an approved university qualification leading to accreditation as an Environmental Health Officer. This position is not suitable for students studying Environmental Management or Environmental Science.
Eligibility
- A right to work in Australia (e.g., birth certificate, current passport, or current visa).
- A current ‘C’ class Australian driver’s licence.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
