There has never been a more exciting time to join the City. As we align our organisation to deliver on the Council Plan 2025–2035, we are creating new roles and building the capability needed to deliver real outcomes for our community.

For candidates, this means the opportunity to join a growing organisation at a time of genuine momentum — where your work can help shape services, strengthen community outcomes and contribute to the future of the region.

The City is seeking a dynamic and strategic Advocacy Officer to play a pivotal role in shaping advocacy priorities, influencing government decisions, and strengthening stakeholder relationships at a regional, state, and national level.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled communicator and analytical thinker to contribute to high-impact advocacy campaigns—while enjoying flexible and remote working options designed to support work-life balance.

About the Role

As our Advocacy Officer, you'll be at the centre of strategic decision‐making—supporting the development and delivery of advocacy strategies that drive funding, policy outcomes, and long‐term regional growth.

You'll work closely with senior leaders, including the Mayor and CEO, preparing high‐quality briefing materials, analysing policy developments, and ensuring our advocacy efforts are informed, targeted, and effective.

What You'll Be Doing

* Supporting the development and delivery of advocacy strategies and campaigns
* Monitoring policy, funding opportunities, and government priorities
* Building and maintaining stakeholder intelligence and engagement plans
* Preparing compelling briefing notes, reports, and advocacy materials
* Translating complex research into clear, actionable insights
* Collaborating across the organisation to align messaging and priorities

What You Bring

* Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret complex information
* Exceptional written communication skills (briefings, reports, or policy content)
* Experience in strategy, communications, public policy, journalism, or similar
* A collaborative mindset with strong stakeholder engagement capability
* Understanding of government processes (or the ability to quickly learn)

Why Join Us?

* Flexible & Remote Work Options – work where you're most productive
* Purpose-Driven Work – influence outcomes that matter to the community
* High-Level Exposure – work directly with senior leaders and decision-makers
* Career Growth – develop your expertise in advocacy, policy, and strategy
* Supportive Culture – collaborative, forward-thinking, and impact-focused

Who This Role Suits

This role is ideal for someone with 2–3 years' experience in advocacy, communications, or policy who thrives on turning insight into action and wants to make a tangible difference.
