About the role
Position title: Director / Associate Dean (Indigenous Engagement) – Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT)
As a key member of the Faculty Executive, you will work closely with the Executive Dean to shape the Faculty’s strategic direction for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement. Your work will involve leading the Faculty’s contribution to UQ’s Reconciliation Action Plan, strengthening partnerships across the University, ensuring Indigenous perspectives are embedded in teaching, research and student support, and representing the Faculty on major committees and initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Shape the Faculty’s strategic direction for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement.
* Lead the Faculty’s contribution to UQ’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
* Strengthen partnerships across the University and embed Indigenous perspectives, knowledges and priorities in teaching, research and student support.
* Provide expert advice, guide policy and represent the Faculty on major committees and initiatives.
* Foster meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities, industry and government.
* Champion ethical and sustained partnerships and support Indigenous‑led research and learning.
* Drive staff capability and support the recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students.
* Help build a culturally capable and connected Faculty environment.
* Work collaboratively across Schools, Institutes and central portfolios to advance UQ’s commitments to reconciliation, Indigenous success and culturally grounded leadership.
Qualifications
* Experience as an Indigenous leader with postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience.
* Demonstrated capability in Indigenous engagement, teaching or research.
* Credibility, influence and relationship‑building skills to drive change and motivate staff.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including diplomacy and collegiality.
* Proven experience in influencing change within a diverse organisation.
* Demonstrated use of evidence‑informed practices to drive continuous improvements.
* Experience managing relationships, negotiating and liaising with a broad range of people at different levels and cultures.
* Ability to lead and implement change within a complex academic environment.
