Job Description

Under the limited (level 5) or minimal (Level 6) direction of the District Manager, this position is responsible for:

* Coordinating, participating in and reporting on the implementation of the Shoalwater Islands, Swan Estuary and Marmion Marine Park management plans, Penguin Island Conservation Park and Carnac Island Nature Reserve and other marine conservation and management programs in the Swan Coastal district.
* Overseeing the delivery of operational programs, partnership activities and projects with the Swan Canning Riverpark.
* Ensuring stakeholder and community involvement in the management of marine, coastal and island reserves, the Swan Canning Riverpark and nature reserves adjacent to these areas within the district.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

* Demonstrated knowledge of and experience (Level 5) or considerable knowledge and operational experience (Level 6) in marine and river estate management including developing and coordinating work plans and strategies, education, enforcement, research and monitoring, marine and river operations, familiarity with the principles of planning in the marine and river environment, and having knowledge of marine, coastal, island and river ecology.
* Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills (Level 5) or considerable experience and competence (Level 6) in the leadership and management of staff, researchers, contractors and volunteers, including conducting employee development and performance management reviews, where appropriate. At Level 6 is capable of dealing with and resolving contentious issues.
* Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience (Level 5) or considerable (Level 6) in effective liaison and negotiation at a senior level to achieve organisational objectives with external organisations including local authorities, private companies, other government agencies, stakeholders, Indigenous groups, community interest groups and the media, and handling complex and detailed information requests.
* Demonstrated (Level 5) or considerable (Level 6) experience in, and knowledge of the administration and financial management of operations, including project management, budget preparation and expenditure control.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status.

Other Information

Similar appointments may be made from this process in locations throughout Western Australia within a 12‐month period to positions that may be permanent or contract, including contract appointments with the possibility of subsequent permanency.
