Lead Safety on a Construction Project
People 2U is partnering with a well-established and highly regarded construction company to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Officer (HSO) for a major construction project in Gold Creek, ACT.
This is an opportunity to join a project at an early stage and take ownership of site safety from day one. You will be based on site, working closely with site management and subcontractors to drive compliance, strengthen safety culture, and maintain best-practice WHS standards throughout the project lifecycle.
With a strong 18-month pipeline, this role offers stability, consistency of hours, and the opportunity to play a key role on a significant construction build.
Key Responsibilities
As the on-site Health & Safety Officer, your responsibilities will include:
* Managing site safety systems, compliance, and overall safety culture
* Conducting site inductions and managing safe site access
* Monitoring subcontractor compliance via safety management software
* Reviewing, maintaining, and enforcing WHS documentation, including SWMS
* Completing site inspections, hazard identification, and risk mitigation
* Collaborating with site management to implement continuous safety improvements
* Providing hands-on support to the site team when required
* Operating plant and equipment (telehandler, forklift, etc.) if licensed (highly regarded)
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
* Previous experience as a Health & Safety Officer or similar role in construction
* Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and on-site compliance requirements
* Effective communication skills with subcontractors, trades, and site leadership
* A practical, proactive approach to safety leadership
* High reliability, punctuality, and commitment to full-time site attendance
* Plant and machinery tickets (desirable but not essential)
* A hands-on, team-oriented mindset
