Rockingham Senior High School Education Support Centre (SHS, ESC) is an Independent Public School for students in Years 7 to 12 with special educational needs and is co‐located with Rockingham Senior High School. The Rockingham SHS ESC community is committed to "Building Independent Futures" by making a positive difference in the lives of young people with complex and challenging behaviours. We believe that all our students can learn and be successful at school and in the wider community.
The Role
As an Education Assistant you will ideally have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a willingness to participate in professional learning opportunities, and a commitment to working collaboratively with students, parents, staff and the wider community. You will support students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, complex communication needs, autism spectrum disorder, and complex behaviours, implementing specialised educational programs. You will engage and motivate students, assist teachers in providing an appropriate learning environment, apply trauma‐informed practice and mental health strategies, and support students in off‐site programs such as Workplace Learning and Vocational Education & Training. Training in Team Teach and positive handling of students is highly valued.
Qualifications
* Education Assistant qualification or willingness to undertake further study.
* Strong knowledge of trauma‐informed practice, mental health practices, autism spectrum disorder, and intellectual disability.
* Understanding of Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) and support for students in off‐site programmes.
* Training in Team Teach and ability to provide positive handling of students.
Eligibility
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
