About the Role
As the Transfer Station Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations, manage staff and subcontractors, and ensure the site operates efficiently and safely. You're proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with management, staff, and external authorities are essential. Along with Coldstream Transfer Station is Wesburn Transfer Station which is open 4 days a week and staffed by one person.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Managing both Coldstream Transfer Station and Wesburn Transfer Station
* Overseeing a team of up to 10 people, subcontractors, and daily operations.
* Coordinating repairs, maintenance, and waste/recycling collections.
* Managing staff rosters, leave, training, and inductions.
* Monitoring budgets and financial performance with the General Manager.
* Liaising with councils, EPA, CFA, and other authorities.
* Ensuring compliance with EPA guidelines and maximizing resource recovery.
* Conducting site audits, inspections, and handling emergencies as Chief Warden.
The Successful Applicant will bring
* Proven experience in the waste management industry.
* The ability to supervise teams, manage subcontractors, and handle operational challenges.
* A valid driver's license.
* Relevant Plant licenses, including Excavator & Wheel loader (forklift preferred but not essential).
* Computer proficiency for managing site data and records.
* Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
* Have a positive, 'can do' attitude.
* Company car, laptop and phone.
* Dynamic working environment.
* Family-owned business with 20 years experience in the waste industry.
* Ability to influence change on-site.
