Graduate Residential Draftsperson

About the role

North Coast Drafting Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Draftsperson to join and become an integral part our growing team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of drafting and council approval projects, including residential, Class 10a, and small commercial work.

The position is part-time to start, with the clear expectation that it will evolve into a full-time role as the business continues to grow and as the successful candidate develops their skills and confidence. You'll work closely with the business owner/director and receive ongoing mentoring and support.

What you'll be doing

* Assist in preparing drafting documentation for a variety of projects, including custom residential builds, alterations and additions, Class 10a structures (such as garages, sheds, patios, and retaining walls), and small commercial projects
* Assist with site inspections of existing unauthorised or unapproved structures and prepare accurate "as-constructed" drawings for retrospective council approval
* Produce and update working drawings, council submission sets, and construction-ready documentation, with guidance and review provided
* Support the preparation of development and building approval lodgement packages and assist with council queries and requests for information
* Learn to apply and progressively ensure compliance with WA NCC, R-Codes, relevant shire requirements, and applicable standards, with training and mentoring provided
* Update and revise drawings based on feedback from clients, councils, consultants, and builders
* Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, energy assessors, certifiers, and other consultants to incorporate required information into drawing sets
* Maintain drawing revisions and document control systems within project management and file management software
* Support the business owner with workflow management, project tracking, and general drafting-related tasks
* Carry out other drafting or project support tasks as required

About you

We're looking for someone who is:

* A recent graduate or soon-to-be graduate in Drafting, Building Design, or a related qualification (Certificate IV or Diploma in Residential Building Drafting)
* Keen to learn, take feedback on board, and develop strong technical and practical drafting skills
* Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and drawing presentation
* Well organised and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
* Comfortable working independently while also collaborating within a small team
* Confident using Revit (ArchiCad experience is a bonus but not essential)
* Professional, reliable, and motivated to grow into a long-term role within the business

Previous industry experience is not required but would be looked on favorably — full training and mentoring will be provided.

What we offer

* A supportive and flexible working environment
* Part-time role to start (preferably 3 days per week), with flexibility around which days are worked and how hours are structured across three 7.5-hour days
* A clear pathway for the role to transition into a full-time position
* Hands-on mentoring and exposure to projects from concept through to council approval and construction documentation
* Competitive salary based on experience
* The opportunity to grow your skills within a small, driven, and collaborative team
