Thanks to an internal promotion, Simon & Schuster Australia now have the exciting opportunity for a passionate reader with an eye for detail for the position of Junior Editor based in Sydney.
This role provides editorial support to our local publishing department. The Junior Editor is involved in all stages of the publishing process, project managing books, copyediting, proofreading and management of page proofs, and providing final files to production for a wide range of adult titles.
**What you'll be doing**:
- Assisting in the project management of a wide range of fiction and non-fiction titles
- Developing structural editing, copyediting and proofreading skills, by shadowing other Editors
- Checking final pages and printer proofs for titles across the list
- Managing corrections and production for all second format titles
- Sending files to print monthly alongside the Managing Editor and archiving final files
- Providing production support such as liaising with typesetters, cover designers and stock libraries, and checking print proofs
- Managing metadata
- Assisting in reading and assessing manuscripts and proposals submitted for publication
- Editorial support for other departments at S&S such as proofreading marketing & publicity materials, EDMs etc.
**What you'll be bringing to the role**:
- Minimum of 2 years' publishing experience preferred. Previous experience as an Editorial Assistant or Editorial Coordinator in trade publishing is highly desirable
- A thorough knowledge of English language essential
- Excellent Microsoft Word skills essential, basic skills in Microsoft Suite programs required, Adobe skills (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop) desirable
- Pragmatic attitude, along with an ability to react quickly, effectively and decisively
- Reacting positively to change and able to smoothly adapt between competing priorities
- Trustworthy and supportive with a high degree of integrity and loyalty
- Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task
- A methodical working style, can explain where the project is up to at any time
- Values accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
- Broad general and literary knowledge highly desirable
- University degree in relevant field regarded favourably.
