Job Description
SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the team in Kalgoorlie under the Geochemistry laboratory. Responsibilities Will Include, However Are Not Limited To
Ensure a safe work environment exists for self and all staff. Assist in the daily management of the Laboratory and ensure timely and quality analysis of samples. Act as a relieve supervisor as and when required.Maintain detailed and accurate records pertaining to sample submission, sample preparation process and achieving sample turnaround time.Operating instruments in relevant department. ICP-MS/OES, MP-AES, AASMaintaining of all areas of the laboratory including the following specific procedures.Fairly delegate tasks to the team of sample preparation and laboratory assistants dailyMonitor and assist with productivity of the laboratory and ensure all samples are progressing through the laboratory in a timely mannerEnsure that samples are organized and arrange for return of samples and waste materials to clients (if required) in a timely manner and following the correct proceduresEnsure all new staff are trained and training documents availableEnsure all staff are following Health and Safety procedures in all areas of the laboratoryCoordinate with clients and keep them informed with sample progressEnsure all laboratory work areas are kept clean, functional and uncontaminatedEnsure equipment is in working orderEnsure all analysis is completed and work priorities are organized to meet client needs/contractsMaintain the Quality Management System and Laboratory ManualsCheck results for quality and accuracySchedule regular maintenance and do basic maintenance on equipment as and when requiredPerform general administrative support duties, as required
Qualifications
As the successful candidate you will have:
Professional qualifications in chemistry or a related discipline or equivalent demonstrable experienceExperience in laboratory work, sample preparation and chemical knowledgeBasic understanding of computer applicationsUnderstanding of acid extraction methods and recognition of sample typesUnderstanding Analytical proceduresUnderstanding of fire assay operation and laboratory techniquesDemonstrated experience in administrationCompetent in using CCLAS LIMSKnowledge of Company Quality SystemsCompetent in ICP-MS/OESCompetent in MP-AESCompetent in AAS
